Abstract

The study addresses the significance of the Satellite images and the digital maps while studying the vegetation in the municipality of Palace bin Ghacher, where plants and natural forests represent the essential base in the food guide pyramid for all Organisms, as they were considered as one of the natural filters to dispose the air from dust and toxic gasses.
The study aims at employment of the remote sensing technology and the geographic information systems by the accommodation the scientific advance and the digital data flow from space to study the vegetation position in the in the municipality of Palace bin Ghacher through the captured satellite visuals of the study zone within the period 1989: 2009   by the use of the American satellite Landsat of the discriminatory accuracy (30 Meters) digital information of the satellite images were processed and analyzed by the use of ERDAS Imagine, v.8.4
The final outputs were drawn in the form of digital maps by the use of the ARCGIS program v. 9.3 as the study focused on identifying the nature of vegetation in the study zone, to know the reasons that led to the   Variation in vegetation areas during the period from1989: 2009  as the researcher use the descriptive method technique and the analytical method for the digital information derived from satellite images in addition to the data and the administrative maps that have been  collected from various sources that are in relevant with the study subject.
The study pointed out that the municipality of bin Ancher Palace is exposed to degradation and erosion of the vegetation in the extended period from1989: 2009 by the rate of 22% as the result of the increasing exploitation of space and the Population growth, the random population interaction with areas of the vegetation imperceptibly that effected the Soil productivity, its erosion, its dryness and the consequent negative effects that may contribute to desertification activity in the study Zone.
