Abstract

The last decade of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twentieth one century witnessed amazing progress in the information technology domain. The modern technological means turn the world into a small universal village. This progress impacts various domains of life as education. New types and shapes of education emerge as a virtual university that spread in many world countries and reaches many achievements. The present study depends on using descriptive method in analyzing educational literature and presenting the concept of the virtual university, its features, models, its importance, and its development, then the analysis of different views about it and the challenges and obstacles of adopting this educational type in Arabic countries and analysis of some virtual universities in different world countries. The study reaches some suggestions for adopting this educational type in Arabic university education in light of the previous analysis.
